Shadow under trees @ Chandara Beach Phuket

Chandara Beach Phuket

Facing south on Phang Nga Bay near the very top of the east side of Phuket Island is this little sandy beach with a small pier facing some of Phuket’s coolest islands, Ko Raet and Ko Naka Yai and Noi. The water of Chandara Beach is often filled with small yachts and other boats anchored in this somewhat protected space. There are a number of places to stay close to the beach for boat owners, we review Chandara Resort & Spa Phuket below.

Chandara Beach Restaurants / Bars

  • Eclipse Restaurant – this is part of the Chandara Resort & Spa on the west end of Chandara Beach. There are very few reviews (1), and none of the guests staying at the resort mentioned the restaurant, so we don’t have a good idea about the quality of the food. It certainly looks great in the photos on Google Maps. The setting is outside on a platform overlooking the water and nearby islands, and the tables are nicely set with a bouquet of flowers in the center of the tables.
  • Pier88 Seafood Terminal – located just west of Chandara Beach, this restaurant is decorated with sailing and fishing items, a bit different from most Phuket restaurants. The vaulted ceiling is very high and made of bamboo and other wood. A portion of a longtail boat hangs high above dining tables. Is that a good idea?

Food and service at Pier88 are both rated highly, but there were a number of comments on social media regarding high prices. Tourists seem to be surprised by high prices for food on the island. This is becoming a frequent complaint, but one that isn’t likely to go away any time soon as the cost of living in Phuket and other tourist towns keeps rising.

Chandara Beach Accommodations

  • Chandara Resort & Spa Phuket – this was possibly a five-star resort at one time. The property has villas on a small hill over the water and some units set back from the shore. The property is waterfront and there is easy access to the beach. Some reviewers commented that the property seemed abandoned to some degree. Staff were friendly and attentive, but it seemed that maintenance had fallen behind, and the property wasn’t being cared for as it once was. Furnishings are dated, a photo of a box-style TV was on their Google Maps listing. Rates begin around 5,000 THB per night and go up to 12,000 THB for a 2-bedroom unit.
