Coral Island (Ko He – pronounced ‘hey’) is a 3.5 kilometer-long island from end-to-end and just 6 km. off the southern tip of Phuket Island at Promthep Cape in a southeastern direction. Ko He doesn’t mean ‘coral island’ – it means crowded island, and it is definitely that during some months of the year. The island’s closest neighbor in the Andaman Sea is Ko Aeo Island, just 1.6 km. to the northeast.
Coral island is most easily reached by taking a tour boat from Ao Chalong Pier in Chalong, on Phuket Island’s southeast side. Boats leave from Ao Chalong Pier on Phuket’s east coast daily when weather is good. Ao Chalong Pier is located just east of Phuket Town. From Patong Beach, take Highway 4029 east.
