Chao Fa Night Market – Naka Market
Chao Fa Night Market is only open and running in the evening on weekends.
If you are looking for new jeans, maybe a special t-shirt, new beach sandals or you just want to buy something that you’ve been dreaming of for a long time; Chao Fa Night Market might be just the right place to enjoy a reasonably inexpensive shopping spree.
This Phuket weekend/night market is known by the locals as the Naka Market and is located along Chao Fa West Road not very far from Central Festival. Once you are at the big traffic lights in front of Central Festival shopping mall, turn right as if you were going to Wat Chalong, Big Buddha or Nai Harn Beach, and then turn left at the next traffic lights.
If you get there after six o’clock, you might find yourself in a small traffic jam as it seems that everyone want to buy “stuff” at this time. We recommend that you hire a “tuk-tuk” or a taxi to drop you off and pick you up later instead of using your own car, if possible. How much later depends entirely on you as you will realize that even after two hours you might still feel that you haven’t seen it all or tried all the food there is to be tasted.
The market itself is divided into a covered and an open area: In the covered section you’ll mostly find second hand items, clothing apparels as well as souvenirs like wooden statues and so forth; in the open part you’ll find the latest electronic gadgets as well as cd’s, dvd’s and accessories for the fashion conscious like jewelry, bags and shoes.
To the right of the main entrance is the food part where you can gorge and indulge yourself on delicious boiled buttered corn on the cob, spicy sausages, grilled chicken, fishcakes, exotic fruit and even deep-fried insects. And of course, you can wash down all those delicious snacks with an ice-cold beer.
