Nai Harn Beach is a small and nice beach south of Phuket.
If you’d ask us to describe Nai Harn Beach in one word we would have to choose the word “tranquil”. Coming from the Latin word “tranquillus” which means quiet, calm and still, this description fits this beach perfectly. This tranquility might be one of the main reason why it’s one favorite spot for both locals and expats to hang out for a day with friends, family or alone with a book. It is different from the more hectic beaches further north on the west coast, in as much as Nai Harn Beach has kept its own character.
The bay also offers protection for many luxury yachts and sailing boats of all sizes which choose to anchor off Nai Harn Beach during high season. High season, between November and April, is also the best time to enjoy a good swim in the waves, as swimming during the low season, May to October, is not recommended because of the undertow (rip current) which moves below the surface in a different direction than the one at the surface, which can endanger even the strongest of swimmers.
You can buy water, sunscreen or a coconut to go from the Family Mart and replace forgotten or lost sunglasses in one of the souvenir shops, on your way to the beach. You can also take a deserved break from sunbathing and face the challenge of choosing between the many little restaurants lined up behind the beach. The food in all these establishments is pretty much the same so you are just left with the choice of your favorite viewpoint.
A little tip for newcomers: when coming down the stairs, you will see to your right “The Nai Harn”, formerly known as the “Royal Phuket Yacht Club”; you will also see a road leading to its parking lot which itself takes you to Ao Sane Beach.
… pssst … this is a secret beach … 😉
