Tourist Attraction Kathu, Phuket, Thailand

Phuket Mining Museum in Kathu is just 24.6 km (or 37 minutes) away from Bismarcks Paradise Phuket luxury villas resort.

The Phuket Mining Museum is a little-known attraction that isn’t very big, but it does give you some interesting information about Thailand’s cultural heritage over the years. The entrance fee is fifty Thai Baht per child and one-hundred for adults, which is quite a reasonable fee if you’re interested in the topic.

This mining museum is a tribute to, and a history lesson as well, the Chinese immigrants who came to Phuket to work in the tin mines, years ago. Tin was a very important export for many years from Phuket and the island thrived as a result of its vast stores. Eventually the mining for tin dried up but the Chinese didn’t go home; in fact they found other jobs, built businesses in Phuket and in due course became a part of Thai culture.

The exhibits at the museum are in both English and Thai.

This museum visit is probably not advisable for most kids, as they’ll be bored and not interested. If you’re really interested in the culture of Thailand and you’re in the neighborhood, you might stop by for thirty-minutes or so. Forty-Two TripAdvisor museum visitors gave the Phuket Mining Museum a 4-star rating.
