With such a vivacious nightlife here in Phuket, trying to decide where to spend your evening can be a rather daunting task. Of course there is Bangla Road which is like the Taj Mahal of party scenes; and there is also the ‘old part’ of Phuket Town which exudes a certain laid back old Thai charm, for those who aren’t keen on large crowds. But for those who want the upbeat nightclub without having to bump and push your way there, we suggest a visit to Banana Disco: Phuket oldest discotheque nestled among the chic new Banana Walk shopping mall.

Located on Patong beach road, sits this dual-venue discotheque and bar, with its trade mark neon blue banana sign and giant faux palm trees. It’s Phuket’s oldest and most frequented party spot on the whole island. Established in 1993 Banana Disco has pleased crowds with its live DJ’s, pumping sound system and energetic atmosphere for over two decades. The discotheque itself is located up-stair in the building and is where the DJ booth, dance floor and bar can be found. There is a 200 baht entrance fee which includes your first drink and also helps to ensure the bar girls stay away. Downstairs is where you will find the open air bar, aptly named Banana Bar, that serves drinks until 11pm and is a good place to sit and have a few cocktails before going upstairs to start the party.

Banana Disco has a top-notch security team that prides itself on keeping patrons safe and undisturbed. Their strict ID policy helps to keep underage drinkers away, and metal detectors at the door ensure no dangerous articles find their way into the club. There is a no smoking policy in the building, so smokers must go outside to light up.. but with the stamp you get upon paying the entrance fee and the open aired Banana Bar right there with a live band performing in the cool air, it’s almost worth the trip outside.. and of course the stamp gets you back into to the party.
